Home built steam engine.

Post by geedee » Mon Jun 24, 2019 2:52 pm

A friend of a friend has built a number of steam engines in his back yard workshop, for his various vessels. I was asked along to see them working out the horse power the engine was generating, which was an interesting process. Obviously I took my camera :) Not a great pic but perhaps a more interesting back story...?

f8 1/30th ISO 100 52mm PP applied.

As ever CC welcomed.

Fiddle about, fiddle about....you have to love tinkerers. Seems like it's a lost art/ambition. I am not sure what kids do these days. I was building minibikes when I was twelve and rode with no helmet. I suppose that stuff is too dangerous these days. You can't even buy gasoline for a can in China; you have to get a permit. Times have changed.......not all for the better.

Is it fitted in a boat?

Very cool! I bet he was something in his younger days; he appears to be about half the man he used to be. ;)

Jonny you are too clever by half... :D In his younger days he was a marine pilot at various important locations around the world, steam engineering having been a long term hobby... will attach a pic of his home workshop created by doubling the length of his garage alongside his bungalow...
